About Us

Caledonia Square Inch Land was born in part through frustration and in part from a passionate desire.

The frustration came from looking at the quality and nature of the Scottish gifts available on the web today. It seemed to us that our rich heritage was being over-shadowed by an enormous amount of low quality items that all looked the same. We wanted to change this by offering unique, high quality items that truly reflect Scotland's heritage and tradition.

The passionate desire came from having been ex-pat Scots ourselves for over 30 years. When we lived overseas we felt the need to keep a strong connection "back home" amid the chaos we found ourselves in various corners of the world. Whether it was something as simple as a plate of mince and tatties every so often or a special memento on the wall from the previous summer trip home, the connection was important to us. And we were not alone - you just have to look at the number of St Andrews Societies throughout the world to know that Scots the world over are proud of their ancestry, enjoy celebrating it and want to have a connection back home.

Our business has now expanded to offer more than just the original Caledonia Land Deed and we plan to continue this growth. It is important to us that we always keep true to our goal to offer unique and distinctive Scottish gifts. We know our country is rich in talent as well as heritage and will continue to showcase both.

Our privately-owned company is based in North Berwick, an ancient Royal Burgh just outside Edinburgh known for its links golf and outstanding Seabird Center, and a close neighbour to Dunbar, birthplace and childhood home of John Muir, founding father of the conservation movement in the US.

Also nearby is Muirfield, which has hosted the Open Championship no fewer than 14 times (Open winners at Muifield are all golfing greats - Hagen, Cotton, Player, Nicklaus, Trevino, Watson, Faldo (twice!) and in 2002, Els) and the Air Museum at East Fortune which is shortly to receive the first ever Concorde to add to its exhibits.

John and Eileen Monaghan manage the day to day running of the business with support from Andrew and Anne Monaghan who are located in Denver, USA and London respectively.
